Today's Run: 3.4 miles, 28:00, 8:14/mile (Nike+ was not accurate)
Well, it looks like I have to find a track and re-calibrate my Nike+ setup. I thought it was going fine and it looked like my times were getting better, but I was only partly right. My times have been getting better but much more so than my iPod was telling me. I had a feeling the other day that it was a little off, but today confirmed it. I went out for a run and when I was at 2 miles, the iPod was still not there yet. It wasn't until almost a quarter-mile later that it told me I had gone 2 miles. In the end, my 3.4 mile run was only counted as a 3.1 miler and that makes a huge difference.
My pace is the one thing that I really need to work on. I know that if I get out on a marathon course that I'm going to push myself the whole time but I want the time to be good as well. The time difference between what I did run and what Nike+ said I run was significant. On the iPod, it told me my pace was 9:00/mile. I did feel like I kept my pace slow, but not that slow. When figuring it out without Nike+, my pace was 8:14/mile! I have been getting much faster lately which means my workouts have been longer and at a faster pace than what I was thinking.
Tomorrow will be the day I calibrate the iPod with about a 2 mile run and hopefully from there I'll have to re-calibrate every month or so. Right now, I'm starting to get the thought that I might be able to use the Miami Marathon in January as my qualifier for Boston in 2010, not 2011. Let's keep our collective fingers crossed!!
One last thing, I ran in my brand spanking new Air Zoom Vomero+ 4s today and LOVED it. There will be more on those later. Good night all!
